Why should a financial engineer be paid four, four times… to a hundred times more than the, uh… real engineer?
A real engineer build bridges, a financial engineer build, build dreams.
And when those dream turn out to be nightmares, other people pay for it.”

humanity

After these past few months, i am becoming more and more convinced that the only way to make a tremendous impact on our world is when we are able to become that change ourselves. It goes beyond the pitfalls of materialism - that is the easiest step on the long path. Far too often we see amazing people fail because of their constant internal struggle against desires - desires of monetary success, accumulation of surface friendships, etc. But this is only the first stages of growth.

The next step holds a heavier burden. Articulating your awareness with open-mindness and making each second count by not only sympathizing but empathizing.

To be able to experience life is such a precious thing that should never be taken for granted. The mind and heart has so much capabilities, take advantage of them and do not be scared to embrace this new strength.

The process includes becoming stronger and stop dwelling on the small negative things around us and start focusing on the positive moments to the point where the negative values do not exist.

Thank you for sharing Earth with me,

swearing

We’re always told to get into the habit of stopping the use of swear words when we work around young students -  to “watch our language.”

Most scenarios that involves a slip here and there, is usually followed by a kid with a shock look or a comment along the lines, “omigosh, he/she just said the ‘S’ or the ‘F’ word!”

This hasn’t happened to me with elementary or middle school kids yet, but I can imagine that I would feel guilty/bad about the slip up and apologize right away. However, I would probably not think to realize that someone must’ve already accidentally taught the kid the word through some other means in order for the kid to recognize the word. If the kid recognized it, then it wasn’t me. :) I am starting to get the sense that if the kid already knows the bad word, then the parents/guardians are using their mishaps to find a scapegoat and temporarily taking the weight off their shoulders. Unfortunately our society is attracted to the blame game, which implies that I would be force to still feel guilty for such actions. I guess my point is, it aint all so bad if you accidentally swore in front of a kid who already recognizes the word. so chill the fck out.  :p

What Happens to Your Student Loan if You Die?

from simpletuition.com:

What Happens to Your Student Loan if You Die?
It’s not a pleasant thought, but take heart: there is no need for you to worry about the impact your federal student loans will have on your family if you should die. (Note: this is not always true with private student loans. If you have a private student loan that required a co-signer, your co-signer might be responsible for repayment.) In this case, your federal student loans are completely discharged and no debt will be passed on with your estate. Your family will need to follow a few steps for this to happen, including sending a copy of your death certificate to the student loan servicing agency. Likewise, if you should find yourself afflicted with a permanent disability, you can also begin the process to have your student loans discharged. You will need to supply various medical documentation regarding your disability.

birds and planes

The decrease in use of DDT and increase in support for cleaner water has increased the population of birds.

There are more reports of collisions between birds and airplanes, sometimes resulting in plane crashes due to the shutdown of engines.

I wonder if birds have to come to consider planes as their “God”, wanting to fly near planes when they see one.

This world excites me, there seems to be an infinite number of problems, emerging from issues we’ve been working to resolve for over several decades.

war

War.

For the sake of killing off anyone who disagrees with our thinking.
We are close-minded, stubbornly refusing to listen to another opinion.
There is no such thing as another opinion, only ours - ours to make, ours to do, ours is RIGHT.

“Who dares to protest?” a man bellowed. The room was silent, knowing that any voice against him would be shattered.

Ours is right.
why?

because everyone in OUR meeting says so: Me, me, I, myself, we, our, MY meeting!

“You were there,” the old man points his index finger to the north direction. “And you too,” he turns and points in another direction, “and I was there.” The faces all gave identical nods in return.

The house was surrounded by walls, walls that had mirrors from the ceiling to the ground. A single armed chair was placed in the middle where the man sat. There was only one window in the whole room. One source of light.

motivation

what gives us the right to have three complete meals everyday on our tables when others are malnutritioned?

is our life more valuable than theirs?

they are barely lucky enough to get one full meal.

i grew up in a large family and we eat a lot, but i have come to realize that some people eat to live and others live to eat.

For the past few months i have trained myself to eat to live, see it as a means to an end, eat what is necessary to give myself sufficient energy to go about my daily life.

some of these children work all day in the fields, they have no luxury of education or “lounging around.”

fn(work) = food.

i feel helpless when i look at pictures around the world. you’d think that with today’s technology, no one would have to starve. is this another form of population control?

for the past month i have been trying to find my motivation and i believe that there is no stronger motivation then live for those who cannot or unable to.

i’m going to have an early resoluations: to make everyday a productive day, or at least mondays-fridays. although i will not work for them directly, I will not waste the time that they do not have. it would be shameful to do so.

for starters, I will wake up earlier, because whatever my early is, they will always have it earlier. i will not linger any longer on my applications. i will be more diligent as a way to show my thanks to my fortunate situation.

do not be afraid

I cannot tell you how you should interpret or live your life.

the fact that you’re still here says a lot.
be proud to be breathing.
some of us were not/are not/may not make it.
