there’s this moth that has been residing in my room free of board. For the past month it has survived. the room is the smallest in the house and one of the hottest. i decided to do some research on moths to find out what they live off of…
Facts:
butterflies and moths are related.
moths are world known as pests who ruin clothing and farming through their larvaes and caterpillars.
most moths are nocturnal, but there are also “crepuscular” (twilight zone - dusk and dawn) moths as well as “diurnal” (daylight) moths.
The domesticated moth, Bombyx mori, produces the silk worms.
House moths aka Indianmeal are usually spread through the rest of the home from birdseed, dry dog food, rice, oatmeal, pasta, cake mixes, granola, walnuts, pecans, and dates. They are about 3/8 inch long w/ a 1/2 inch wingspan. Adult moths do not feed, they lay eggs in or near dried food.
The life cycle of a moth from egg to adult is about 1-2 months.
Clothing moths tend to not need to feed, their larvaes can live off of hair, lint and natural fabrics, which means that they are able to destroy wool items lying around. Moths are more likely to lay their eggs on soiled fabrics from perspiration, urine, or stains from beverages and food.
I gotta find that moth tomorrow and destroy it!
